Social Justice
The Social Justice Committee leads many worthwhile activities throughout the year to help our community. A few of the largest and most visible events including the selection of the recipient and organizing the collection activities for the annual Purim Spiel Queen Esther Fund; organizing and promoting the annual “N St. Village (Women’s Shelter) “Not Just Food” collection drive; seeking volunteers and coordinating Bet Mishpachah’s support for Project Hope which distributesfood to needy people and families before Passover; supporting the region’s Jews United for Justice (JUFJ) annual “Labor Seder” event, and supporting HIAS in its broad and expanding programs to help immigrants and asylum seekers.
Our Social Justice Committee always welcomes enthusiastic new members to help our Congregation’s mission of Tikkun Olam (healing the world). We also invite others who may just wish to help in a specific event or program. Anyone interested should please reach out to our Social Justice Committee Chair at social-action@betmish.org.
A few of the recent successful social justice activities include:
Participating in the 2023 60th Anniversary of the March on Washington.
Promoting HIAS programs to Bet Mishpachah members as part of the congregation's continuing designation as a HIAS Welcome Campaign member.
Facilitating and co-organizing a large Fall 2019 fundraising event to replenish the Krampf Family Social Justice Fund, whose two annual contributions are administered by the Bet Mishpachah’s Social Justice Committee.
Selecting SAGE (LGBT Advocacy and Support Group for the Aging) as the 2020 Queen Esther Fund recipient and helping raise nearly $1,500.
