Gay for Stage: Why I Can’t Shut Up About Musicals

Friday, May 2, 2025 4 Iyyar 5785

6:30 PM - 8:00 PM

Reception from 6:30-7pm with drinks and food

Former Theatre Kid Mitch Crispell writes about the DC and NYC theatre scenes on his blog, “Mitch’s Theatre Newsletter.” In this fun and interactive talk, he gushes unabashedly about why he loves theatre more than anything else. Whether you’re theatre-curious but intimidated by the options, see shows but wonder what’s going on behind the scenes, or you’re a fellow Theatre Nerd but want to be a more discerning critic, you’ll learn a lot from Mitch’s infectious enthusiasm and insights.

We’ll cover:

* Where can you see great theatre in the DC area?

* What’re the best shows playing in DC and New York this Spring?

* How to pick a show that you’ll love?

* How does a show get made? Who else besides the actors works on it?

* What tools are available to theatre-makers and how do they use them to tell stories and entertain?

* What’s the difference between Broadway, Off-Broadway, Off-Off-Broadway, national tours, and regional theatre?

* What YOU love about theatre!

This event is social and is open to all, including non-Jews and non-LGBTQ+ people. You’re welcome to stay for shabbat services at 8p or leave after the talk.
